Jose Mourinho joins Tumblr as part of Yahoo deal

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was yesterday announced as Yahoo’s Global Football Ambassador for the rest of 2014.

As you can probably imagine the deal, which will see The Special One work as an exclusive analyst during the 2014 World Cup, has a digital flavour to it. Mourinho will take to Tumblr to have his say on the state of the game.

After spending $1.1 billion on the popular blogging platform in 2013 it’s no real surprise Yahoo have opted to make the most of having on of football’s most forthright personalities on their books. The presence of a top class manager on the platform will help to put Tumblr in front of football supporters who may otherwise have given the site a wide berth.

The deal is somewhat of a no-brainer for Mourinho too. With an estimated 300 million monthly users Tumblr is one of the more popular networks allowing Jose to, in his own words, “reach a huge audience from Brazil to the US to the UK”.

It’ll be interesting to see how much of Jose’s personality will be allowed to shine through in his posts and whether this very corporate partnership will actually bring manager and fans closer together.
