Dedicated digital hub for Super Bowl XLVIII announced

The NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee have unveiled the hub of their social media operations for this weekend’s game.

The Social Media Communications Centre (SMCC) aims to ensure that all 400,000 visitors will be well catered for if and when they decide to go digital. The venue will be staffed by around 45 individuals who will be involved in creating content and engaging with fans in the build up to the big game.

The centre is not open to the public. Instead travellers to NY/NJ can only make contact with the ‘virtual volunteers’ on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by using the #SBQuestions hashtag or the @NYNJSuperBowl handle.

Super Bowl XLVIII is the first of many massive sporting events taking place in 2014 and while plans will already be in place for the FIFA World Cup it will be interesting to see whether the success or failure of the SMCC will influence Brazil’s approach to supporter engagement this summer.
