Man Utd host Google+ Hangout

Manchester United made three first team players available for a live Google+ Hangout earlier this week.

On Monday, and following the club’s 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, Wayne Rooney, Ander Herrera, and Michael Carrick answered fans’ questions live from Old Trafford.

The broadcast was screened to Google’s HQ in London, as well as to specially selected fans who joined in via video link. A live studio audience in London were joined by Old Trafford stadium announcer Alan Keegan who hosted the event, with former Man United player Dwight Yorke also involved.

Following a trivia quiz, which all four players participated in, fans were then given the chance to ask questions. The Hangout was streamed on club sponsors Chevrolet’s Google+ page.

A spokesperson for Chevrolet said:

“The Google Hangout helped us fulfil our mission – bring global football fans closer to the beautiful game and the club they love. During the Hangout, local fans in the UK and four global super fans were given a more personal experience with Man Utd and a worldwide audience had the chance to see their heroes off the pitch. The Google Hangout technology was a perfect fit for this purpose. Google Hangout’s allows us to simply connect fans globally, giving them unique content and access to unforgettable experiences.”

The full length Hangout has been viewed by nearly 50,000 people so far, and was the most viewed full length Hangout video on day of its release by a football club. The current highest viewed full length Hangout is owned by rivals Liverpool, who used the service for last year’s kit launch. At the current rate United’s video is expected to surpass Liverpool’s in the next day or so.
