Di Maria's Facebook page removed following transfer rumours

The social media world was ablaze briefly after Angel Di Maria’s verified Facebook page seemed to hint that former Real Madrid colleague Cristiano Ronaldo was on his way to Di Maria’s current club Paris Saint-Germain.

Jorgelina Cardoso – Di Maria’s wife – took to Instagram to inform the world that her husband has no official Facebook or Twitter presence, despite the Facebook page carrying the tick of verification (and the bio stating that it is indeed the player’s official page).

Shortly after Cardoso’s message PSG themselves released this short statement:

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel Di Maria has confirmed that he has no presence on any social media outlet.

Any social media account in his name or looking to pass itslf[sic] off as him are therefore false.

As a consequence, declarations that were recently taken up by the Spanish press, were in no way communicated by the Argentine international.

Di Maria’s page has since been removed from Facebook, who will no doubt have to explain why they’ve verified an account if it doesn’t belong to the player himself.
