QPR announce specially priced tickets to commemorate League Cup anniversary

Queens Park Rangers have announced the ticket prices for their upcoming EFL Cup tie against Sunderland will be uniquely priced to pay tribute to the club’s League Cup victory in 1967.

To mark 50 years since the team triumphed at Wembley Stadium a maximum price of £6.70 per ticket will be charged for fans wanting to visit Loftus Road for the fixture.

Ian Taylor, Head of Media and Communications at QPR, said:

“We’re paying tribute to our legendary side of 1966/67 throughout the current campaign and with QPR drawing a Premier League side in the third round of the League Cup – 50 years on from us winning the trophy in 1967 – we were keen to incorporate this in our pricing structure for this fixture.

“The club was keen to try something out that would hopefully see an upsurge in numbers in those attending cup ties at Loftus Road – and Sunderland were a suitable opponent for us to experiment this with, with everything aligning to a positive marketing campaign.

“The £6.70 top price ties in nicely with the 1967 theme – and thankfully everyone here was in agreement, as were Sunderland, and then it was just a case of getting everything announced.

We look forward to welcoming both sets of supporters to Loftus Road next month.

While the low ticket price will inevitably draw headlines, it’s also worth appreciating that this kind of announcement requires cooperation from both clubs. Using the prices to draw attention to an important anniversary – and continue a year of celebration as QPR mark the milestone – is a very clever move.
