Snapchat posts 'Our Story' during Liverpool and Man Utd match
Football fans logging into Snapchat in the UK received a surprise yesterday as an ‘Our Story’ featuring a Premier League game appeared on the network for the first time.
Fans at Anfield for Liverpool’s game against Manchester United were given the chance to upload photos and videos to the service’s ‘Our Story’ feature. These were then curated and a two minute finished show was produced.
The initiative appears to have been driven by Liverpool, given the choice of snaps used in the final video. We managed to grab screenshots of three snaps below, including one with United manager Louis Van Gaal being given the thumbs down by a fan (which, although harmless enough, does suggest it wasn’t driven by Man Utd).
The story was in chronological order and did its best to explore what was going on in the stadium through the footage. Cue plenty of selfies and some special filters that allowed users to superimpose the Liverpool crest onto their images. There were also reactions to Steven Gerrard’s sending off 38 seconds after appearing as a substitute.
It’ll be interesting to see if we get more of these, and we’re trying to find out whether it was Snapchat or one of the football clubs behind this.
