Southampton introduce score updates via Twitter DM
Fans of Premier League side Southampton now have another way to receive goal updates thanks to the club’s work with Twitter.
Starting with the club’s game against Newcastle United on 9 April, users can opt to receive a direct message every time the club score a goal. They’ll also include half time and full time updates.
It’s a social media first for the Saints, and enables their fans to just receive the most important notifications. If phones are configured correctly the updates should arrive direct onto lock screens.
Using Twitter in this way bypasses several existing solutions: external apps such as the BBC who provide tailored updates, and having to turn on notifications from the club and receive an alert every time they tweet (during a game in particular this could be quite a lot).
