Creator Studio gives fans the chance to design third kits for adidas clubs
adidas is putting the designs of some teams’ third kits into the hands of fans with the launch of Creator Studio.
The new platform will allow fans to propose ideas for the third shirts at Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Juventus, AC Milan, and Flamengo.
They’ll be able to upload and share their designs online once they’ve been created, with Creator Studio allowing the rest of the world to log in and cast votes for their favourites. The 100 kits with the most votes will be entered into a gallery for each club.
As is the standard, however, the ultimate decision won’t be left solely to the fans: each team as its own judging panel consisting of former players who will have the deciding votes. The winning strips will be put into production in time for the 2017/18 season.
Markus Baumann, adidas’ General Manager Football, said:
We are giving people a blank canvas and allowing them to create something exciting and unique. The Creator Studio is an opportunity for fans to become part of the history of some of the biggest global clubs; it’s a true first. We hope the idea of seeing their design on field next year, being worn by the players and by fans around the world, will fuel imagination and creativity.
It’s a novel initiative, and the first time adidas have allowed fans to have a say in designing kits for teams. It should hopefully help move them away from the ‘template’ approach that is often applied to these kits, where several teams have the same shirts with slightly different colour schemes.
Creator Studio is open now, and is fully mobile-optimised. Note that you can only design shirts: no shorts or socks this year.
